Turn an old gadget into something useful
Have you ever considered what to do with the door stops you’ve had to take away from Fire doors? What about using them to help measure the Fire door gaps. As you can see from the photo one of our assessors took. You don’t need a fancy tool.
- simply turning your old door stop on it’s side.
- Make a note where it is 3mm deep
- Use this to measure around your fire doors.
Why 3mm?
Fire doors are all designed, to prevent the spread of smoke and fire, for up to 30 or 60 minutes. Intumescent strips, which are fitted to the edge of the doors, expand in the event of fire and seal the gaps around. Smoke seals are also fitted, usually to the intumescent strip and these prevent the spread of smoke. This means that the size of the gap becomes important, in order to ensure these strips can do their job.
